Presenting The Bailey House: Pierre Koenig's iconic Case Study House #21. Built between 1956-58 the house was designed on a north/south axis in order to maximize sunlight in the winter and screen it out during the summer. Innovative steel paneled walls at the front and back provide privacy from the street below and hillside houses above while glass walls on either side allow the airy interior to open up to the landscaped yard. In late 1990, Koenig was invited back to oversee the restoration of the property earning the City of Los Angeles Historic Preservation 2000 Award of Excellence. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #669, and has a Mills Act contract providing significant property tax savings.
